Juice Fasting Day 15

Wow, Day 15!!

Woke up at 5:45 am. Today is another day trip to Sacramento.

Juiced watermelon, celery, cucumber for breakfast. I packed a 16 oz thermos of bunch of celery (1), cucumber (1), apple (2), lemon (2) and ginger. I also packed a small Tupperware of pureed vegetable soup.

Everyone else at the meeting had the following for lunch: chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, carrots, salad and bread. It smelled really good but the smell was enough for me. I really did not crave it at all. Really amazing.

What others have said: By Day 15, many people have commented that I look much thinner. My face, neck and stomach have lost the most fat.

How I feel: My jaw line is prominent again. Hallelujah.

Juice Fasting Day 14

Wow, after today, I only have 10 more days to go.

Ofcourse, watermelon juice for breakfast.

Today, I was running late so I brought some soup my friend made last night with vegetables. Its a vegetable soup (squash, tomato, brocolli, mushroom, cabbage) blended. I wasn't very hungry so I had half my thermos and threw the other half away.

4:00 pm - The last session of my colonic. Oh, how I will miss colonic. Atleast for my last session, I was very satisfied.

Ofcourse, I had avocado soup.

I need to jazz up my menu.

Juice Fasting Day 13

Wooo - officially on second half of fast.

My skin looks very dewy today. Thank you cleansing!

Juiced watermelon and had a small glass of it. Watermelon juice is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. It is the world’s number one refreshing beverage. For my thermos, I juiced bunch of spinach (1), celery ( 3 stalks), cucumber (1), pea sprouts (1 container) a bunch of parsley, ginger, small apples (2), lime (½) and lemon (3). Very green drink. Had a large glass and put rest in 24oz thermos.

Jumped on the trampoline around 6:00 am and walked to work. 1.8 miles. It’s not a shabby walk. En route to work, I bought a gallon of distilled water and I will drink the entire gallon before I leave the office.

2 pm: I can’t wait to go home and have some avocado soup. I wonder if it’s tasty to other people also? Or, is it just my taste buds since its clean of processed, over flavored food?

6 pm: Yummmmm, avocado soup. Its delicious. One avocado mixed with vegetable broth makes me full. I don't know how it's possible that I use to be able to eat a 9 course meal.

Juice Fasting Day 12

Congratulations Wakako!! You are 1/2 way done with your fast. Pat on the back!

Woh... I lost 2 inches off my waist since the fat flush on Tuesday! I called Abundant Health (where I got fat flush) if it comes bac, and was told that it’s like cutting hair...Once the fat molecules smooths out, it will always be smooth. (What happens during a fat flush is that round fat molecules are made into flat molecules.) I don't have a scale so I measure myself with a measuring tape.

I woke up around 5:30 am. Again, very ready to go. I feel just like I did mid-day. I now have no back pain, soreness, or tension in my shoulder or back. I had chronic shoulder pain with mega huge knots which needed frequent massaging just 2 months ago. Awwww....the power of cleansing.

6:00 am - Sat in hot bath to sweat out toxins.

7:00 am - I juiced bunch of spinach (1), bunch of celery (1), lemons (2), ginger (1" piece), small apples (2). I love green drinks! I prefer green drinks over orange drinks. Some say carrots and beets should be avoided during cleanse, some say carrots and beets are okay and assist with weight loss. I take the two school of thoughts and take the middle road - I drink it occasionally.

I am now fascinated by how much better my body functions when my body has a higher alkalinity pH than acidic pH. After my fast, I will strive to maintain a 80% alkaline/20% acid ratio in my body. (For anyone interested, Dr. Young authored a book titled phH Miracle.") I use to do the Master Cleanse and return to bad habits after the cleanse. Not this time! I am making a lifestyle change. I want to do it. Goodbye coffee, goodbye steak!

Drank dandelion tea (digestive tea), water and more water in preparation for 2pm colonic.

4:00 pm - Colonics are great!! I feel euphoric after I rid my body of all toxin. Poop talk is not gross! The topic of poop cannot be avoided when discussing health. One can tell their health level by looking at his/her poop and counting the frequency of poops in a day. One is necessary to maintain good health, Three to Four is optimum.

5:30 pm - Yuuuuuuuuum. Avocado soup. So delicious. I will make you some. Its better than most cream soups.

Juice Fasting Day 11

Speaking of detoxing, I woke up with a stomach ache this morning. This means, I have toxins to flush.

I woke up around 5:30 am. On the fast, I always wake up ready to go!

I was sort of bummed to wash off all the fat flush gel off my body, but I must take a shower in the morning.

8:00 am - I juiced green grapes (1 bag) and strawberries (1 basket) -> yields one pint.
I juiced carrots (4) golden beets (2) cucumber(1) lemon (1) and ginger for my 24 oz thermos.

I drank the juice in thermos throughout the day. I also drink at least 2 quarts of water a day as well as herbal teas such as ginger, dandelion root or peppermint tea.

I don’t think one 24 oz thermos is enough juice because I was very tired today. However, I can be tired from the fat flush.

6:00 pm - Avocado soup!!! I look forward to eating this soup all day. It really is tasty! I love this soup.

Drank water and tea in the evening. I was very tired today and fell asleep around 9:00 pm.

Juice Fasting Day 10

Wooooo! 10 days done!

Woke up at 6 am and had a big glass of watermelon juice! Its really so tasty. Then, I juiced carrots, orange beets, apple, pear, lemon and ginger for my thermos.

I went to work and drank the thermos by noon. At noon, I went swimming + jacuzzi for 2 hours. Then, I went to Rainbow Grocery to stock up on vegetables for the week.

At 5:00 pm, I sat in my first infrared sauna. Very different from the usual stone sauna. Infrared sauna’s are lower in temperature and supposedly penetrates deeper into skin. I sat in it for 50 minutes. I did sweat, but it is difficult to sweat from arms and legs. I try to stay in a sauna until I sweat from my arms and legs.

After the infrared sauna, I had a fat flush body wrap! I always wanted to do this treatment - where supposedly, inches fall off from the body. The therapist rubbed some type of liquid all over my body; then for 45 minutes, I was placed in between something (not cloth, not plastic, felt like parchment paper) while the therapist gave me a massage and did "energy rebalancing" on me. I have no idea how one becomes trained to do energy rebalancing, but I felt like things were moving inside me when the therapist had her hand over me moving my energy left and right.

I am definitely detoxing. I feel cleaner and cleaner by the day. Hooray!

Juice Fasting Day 9

YAY! THE WEEKEND IS HERE. MY TIME TO FOCUS ON ME.

I have been sleeping well, but I always wake up with an unpleasant feeling. I find it most interesting that a physical detox works also as an emotional detox.

9:00 am - 2nd colonic. I have to stop drinking fluids at 7:00 am. OH well. I woke up at 7:08 am and had watermelon, cucumber and lime juice. Very refreshing. (Taken from a Cuban restaurant menu.)

Before the colonic, I took a walk for an hour. A ghost town at night is spooky, but a ghost town in the morning is beautiful.

Today's colonic was amazing. I feel great. I talked to the hydroptherapist during the entire session and learned new things. I learned that raw juice fast (which is what I am doing) is the most powerful detox. When I asked her what the difference was between having hot vegetable broth (such as suggested in 21 days in 21 pounds) vs. a cold pressed juice fast, she told me that the cold pressed juice fast is more detoxing but both are beneficial.

11:00 am - I figure I need to replenish my colon so I splurged and had an avocado pureed in vegetable broth. I also had a grapefruit, orange, lemon, ginger juice. Both were delicious.

For dinner, I had another avocado pureed in vegetable broth. Yum!!!

Juice Fasting Day 8

Woke up naturally again with no alarm. I like this feeling. Sat in sauna for about 20 minutes.

7:30 am - Drank a big glass of watermelon juice. Watermelon is almost all water. 2 thin slices turned into one big glass of watermelon juice. I like drinking it better than eating it.

For my 24oz thermos, I juiced spinach, celery, cucumber, pear, apple, parsley and ginger. Very green drink. For me, the greener the better. (My dog likes a treat called greenie too.)

Drank veggie juice in thermos throughout day until I returned home. I feel so free not having to think about what to eat for lunch every day.

5:00 pm - I blended one avocado with a some diluted vegetable broth. Yuuuuuuuuuuumm. This was so good.

7:00 pm - Sat in jacuzzi for 30 minutes. This is as hard as working out. Its tough sitting in hot water for a long time.

Drank loads of water today.

I think its amazing that I don't feel starved, ever. I only feel hungry, but not starving. And, when I drink the vegetable juice, I am completely satisfied. I think its because I am getting all my nutrients. If I ate toast for breakfast (toast = no vitamins, no enzymes), I am starving by mid morning. Body is not hungry when nourished with fruits and vegetables! Wow.

Its really shocking to think how much I normally eat when I can survive on a fraction of what I normally eat.

Juice Fasting Day 7

Woke up to strawberry juice and banana smoothie. Strawberry juice is tasty.

Made 2 thermos of vegetable only juice (romaine lettuce, carrot, ginger, lemon and spinach.) I was not hungry all day. Only drank 1 thermos.

For dinner, not hungry again. Had blended broccoli, spinach soup. I could not finish it. I was really not hungry. Strange.

What others said about me: The ladies at the Armani counter said my skin looked great!

What I think: My face and neck are definitely thinner. I can smell things from a mile away. I walked home again. I have loads of energy considering my calorie intake. Today, it didn't even occur to me that I was juice fasting. It felt like any other day.

I need to drink more water.

Juice Fasting Day 6

7:30 am: Juiced celery, cucumber, lemon, pear, apple. Filled two thermos, one 24 oz and one 16 oz. Drank juice home thermos until I came home.

Drank some peppermint tea during the day.

Waked home from work.

7:00 pm: Blended spinach, bell pepper (although I read I am not supposed to have bell pepper during fast), ginger, and coconut milk with some hot water.

What others said about me: Many people said that my skin was glowing today.

How I feel: I feel great - not puffy, debloated and thinner. I would weigh myself but I don't have a scale. I had loads of energy all day. Very mentally alert.

Juice Fasting Day 5

I woke up naturally at 6:30 am. The beauty of fasting is that I wake up naturally and feeling ready to conquer the world. Never do I wake up sluggish, dreading the day ahead.

Jumped on the trampoline while watching the news.... I wonder if my neighbor downstairs hears the trampoline?

7:00 am - Not hungry at all so had some dandelion root tea. It tastes just like roasted barley tea, but slightly bitter. Yesterday, I felt like I had all heavy juice (i.e.., carrots and beets). Also, the blended spinach with the raw garlic nearly killed me. So, for breakfast, I juiced: celery stalks, cucumber, apple, pear, lemon and ginger. Very green, watery and light. I drank some, poured the rest in my new big thermos.

8:00 am - Walked to work. Walking to work feels goooood.

11:00 am - I definitely feel way better. My face is much thinner and de-puffed.

2:30 pm - Had my first colonic ever. It is definitely uncomfortable but I did feel euphoric right afterwards. Now (3 hours later) I feel fatigue. I really liked the colonic because I feel like all the bad energy stored in the middle area was released during the colonic. Lucky for me, the colonic hydrotherapy office is right by my apartment!

Had to shop again for celery, cucumber and tomatoes. I have been buying produce every day. Juice is not economical, that is for sure. Real Foods is the best market for organic produce. Nothing inside is "conventional." I forgot to buy spinach! Oh ya, Whole Foods does not sell whole bunch of spinach. Odd. Loose spinach does not make enough juice.

4:30 pm - Parched, I juiced 2 slices of watermelon, which amazingly produced one pint of juice. Watermelon is full of water. This was very refreshing. Then I made dinner: fresh carrot juice mixed with 1/2 avocado and added some veggie bouillon and garlic. Very good!!

Monday, October 20, 2008

Juice Fasting Day 4

So, back at work on Monday. I was extremely calm all day - is this because of the juice fast?

8:00 am - Had some juice. Just put in whatever I had - orange, lettuce, spinach, carrot, parsley, etc. Made extra for my thermos.

10:40 am - Drank the whole thermos. uh oh....

1:00 pm - Went to nearby cafe to buy juice. $5 for 24 oz. of beet, cucumber, spinach, ginger and carrots. This was not very good. Plus, the vegetables were not organic. I cursed myself for not buying two thermos at BB&B.... Stopped at Walgreens and bought another thermos. I will now bring two thermos full of juice every day.

5:00 pm - I want some variety!! I put 2 cups of spinach in a blender and poured hot water over it and blended it with garlic and spices. Garlic was soooo strong. I could not handle it. My senses are so heightened, one clove was super strong. I eventually got bored of this spinach broth and blended in 1/2 avocado. I was not too thrilled with this either, so just had some hot water with a organic sodium free bouillon. Every time I make something in the blender, I think, stick to the juicer.

Something made me ultra gaseous today. What was it!! Some people have a very difficult time during a juice fast, but I don't. I hardly had any pains. I am almost on day 5 when I will be 1/5th done. Wow, 25 days sounds like a long time away.... Tomorrow is my first colonic!!!! Must drink more water.

Sunday, October 19, 2008

Juice Fasting Day 3

8:00 am - Woke up feeling very energetic and well. I definitely feel less puffy.

Drank a pint of water and started my day with dandelion root tea. Traditional Medicinals Roasted Dandelion root tea is delicious. It tastes like peanut butter. My sister says it has a slight bitter after taste (the packages says so too), but I don't taste any bitterness.

8:15 am - made the Morning Enerziger: carrot, beet root, ginger, lemon and cucumber. Very good! Bright orange color did energize me.

9:30 am - I normally swim but I was worried I would not have enough energy to swim while juice fasting - no worries was needed! I swam great this morning. Which made me want to compare juice fasting to the master cleanse. I think the juice fast is much better for me - keeps me nourished.

11:30 am - I made the awesome green smoothie, which is made in a blender. 1 avocado, 1 cup spinach, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 coconut milk and 1/2 lime juice. After drinking juice liquid for 2 days, this filling smoothie tastes like a dream! However, I was not able to drink more than half a glass. I'm not sure why...I don't think I like pureed avocado.

2:00 pm - Best juice I've made yet: Green Lettuce, parsley, carrot, apple, ginger, lime, lemon and cucumber. I'm not sure if one particular ingredient tasted good or if the combination tasted good, but this was delicious!

I drink dandelion tea all day long. The more water I drink, the more I am constantly parched. I think I drank a gallon today already.

In the past, I was in pain when toxins left my body, but this time, I feel great!! Today, I cleaned my apartment too. If I am cleansing, so shall my surroundings!

Saturday, October 18, 2008

Juice Fasting Day 2

Woke up at 9:30 am. Very deep sleep. I slept for 12 hours.

9:30 am - I made juice with ginger root, spinach, celery, apple, pear, grape, and carrots. Taste: 3 out of 5. I need lemons.

mid morning snack - Juiced 2 ripe-vine tomatoes. Tomatoes are tasty on its own!!

2:00 pm - Juiced zucchini, lettuce, cabbage and apples. Zucchinis leave a weird aftertaste but it's not bad.

8:00 pm - Juiced beet root and pear. What a great combination!! I can't believe juice came out of the hard beet root.

I swam today for 20 minutes and sat in the sauna for another ten minutes. I had plenty of energy to work out.

I heard dandelion root tea was good during a cleanse so I bought some, and to my surprise, it tastes really good.

How I feel: I definitely feel less puffy.

What others have said: My sister said I was alert at 10:38 pm. This is rare as I always fall asleep before 10:00 pm.

Juice Fasting Day 1

Day 1 of Juice Fasting was on Friday. I was not thrilled to start my juice fast on a work day - and of all work days, I had to go be in court at 10:00 am in Sacramento so I was less than thrilled but, I bought a nice stainless steel thermos to carry juice around. A nice purchase always resolves my problems.

8:00 am - I made juice from celery, cucumber and apples. Juice is not an exact science. I throw in random amounts in the juicer. It all becomes a liquid. Its amazing how much vegetables I eat during a day thanks to the juicer.

I was almost late to Court because it is stressed in all literature that I have to clean the juicer right away. Cleaning kitchen appliances right away is not my strong suit.

Anyways, I thought I would be starving mid-morning, but I was not. How could vegetable juice make me so full? I wonder if my body is satisfied from all the nutrients and vitamins?

1:00 pm - made juice with the spinach, apple, ginger, celery and lemon. Lemon is a good addition.

I was so excited about juicing, I invited my sister for dinner and made us carrot avocado soup. This was too ambitious - it did not taste good. My sister's favorite juice was made from celery, cucumber and apples. This is the beginner's juice blend.

What others said about me: My sister said my complexion looked better already!

How I feel: Yes, Day 1 is over. 24 more days to go. I feel good because I am not overeating and I am not drinking alcohol. I was sleep by 9 pm.

Differences between the Master Cleanse and Juice Fast

I will jot down all the differences as I notice them:

1. I have more energy with juice fast.
2. I do not have mad cravings for food as I did when I did the Master Cleanse.
3. I sleep normally (7-8 hours.) On the Master Cleanse, I woke up around 4:00 am.
4. On the Master Cleanse, I always had to use the restroom. Juice Fast, not nearly as much.
5. On the juice fast, I feel like I can do this forever. Whereas, I was counting the days for the Master Cleanse to end.
6. I can exercise like I normally do. I often swim for 1.5 miles and I feel great. I also sit in jacuzzi's and sauna's and feel great too.

Preparing for Juice Fast

Buy the best juicer available - which means, buy the most expensive one. According to the juice authorities, if you want to juice, you need a juicer, not a blender. I bought the Beville Juicer Elite for $239 ($299, but used 20% off coupon from Bed, Bath & Beyond thanks to my sister who has a collection of BB&B coupon.) I love it.

I also bought a book written by the Juice Lady. Reading a book written by someone more obsessed about juicing than I was inspirational. This is the book: http://www.sleepawaythepounds.com/juicing/p21.shtml

I also bought a 38" mini-trampoline because it is supposed to be good for the lymph nodes. Jumping on the mini-trampoline is called "rebounding" in the health world. My mom thinks I am stupid for buying a mini-trampoline and believing that it will be beneficial for my health. But, read here: http://www.healingdaily.com/exercise/rebounding-for-detoxification-and-health.htm. You can buy a mini-trampoline at Sports Authority in SF. (Not many stores carry mini-trampolines.)

So - it costs money to start the program I am on, however, it costs way less than partying and eating out all week long.

I prepared for the caffeine withdrawal by eliminating caffeine a week before the juice fast.
